Over the years, the State has adopted plants, animals, stones, songs, and other artifacts as symbolic of Montana. Here are several that I have collected just because I found them interesting, beautiful, awesome, and wonderful. Only recently have I discovered that these have gained such stature. Scroll down to see if the images inspire a reaction in you!

Western Meadowlark (Sturnella neglecta) adopted as State Bird1931
Mourning Cloak (Nymphalis antiopa) State Butterfly adopted 2001
Bluebunch Wheatgrass (Agropyron spicatum) adopted as State Grass in 1973

Ponderosa Pine (Pinus ponderosa) is an imposing presence in our environment in all seasons. It was adopted as State Tree in 1949.

Bitterroot (Lewisia rediviva) State Flower adopted in 1895
